Yeah, I miss having summers off too. Having just a week off in the summer doesn't quite cut it anymore.

Uh oh.. I don't know if I should mention this then, but my semester goes to August 1st. After that I am free until like Sept 29th I think. Well thats not totally true.. I have to write 2 papers.. one easy report like paper, the other an academic paper and on top to of that I have a 2 week long intensive seminar to teach from Aug 18-29th. Its 10 days (mon-fri) for 4 hours a day. FOUR hours!!! I have never taught more than a 90minute course before. I might go nuts trying to do 4 hours everyday for 10 days! But I have no normal work. And the papers I can do from home.

I don't think I would make a very good teacher, lol. Sounds like a lot of work to me... You need the summer off just to recover, lol.

Fridays.......... why do we have to work on Fridays? I know lots of people have different fridays than the normal one. As in they work Tuesday through Saturday then have Sunday Monday off or whatever. So that would make their Friday actually Saturday. But still, that last day of work before the weekend is always bittersweet. You're happy it's almost the weekend..... but it's really annoying that it usually goes by very slowly. So I'm complaining because it's Friday...... and I work tonight from 4pm-midnight. So, I like my job, I just don't want to go to work....

Hahaha..... yeah i hear ya. Of course if we DID have off Fridays, we would feel that way about Thursdays:)
I actually like last days of work a lot... its Mondays, or that first day back, that I hate the most. Wouldn't it be nice if the only reason we worked is because we wanted to, and not because we have to? I remember thinking that when I watched Star Trek years ago and they said people didn't work for monetary reasons and in fact there was no money! That would be so nice!

Ok, so the other day I only had work in the morning and there was nothing posted for the afternoon so I made a lunch date with a friend which wen't rather long and I just went home after that. Normally thats fine. But on that day a meeting was suddenly called and while not everyone could attend because it wasn't planned, that other guy I mentioned before.. the slacker... well he was there. Since we are both in the same boat as far as we know, certain impressions are really important. What burns me up is that he is one of those sly type workers, where he will say he works hard and make a show of the things he does do, but in reality he doesn't almost nothing.
I am on the other hand a more quiet.. honest worker I guess. I do my job and I keep to myself about it. So the other day with the meeting all the others say the slacker there and working, while I was unaccounted for.
I don't know what was said if anything, but from my experience with this guy, I can imagine he said something like, "Oh, he went home early.. wish I could do that.. must be nice not to have so much work to do" or something like that.
The other teachers know what work I have and what I am doing so I am not too overly concerned by it, but man I hate crap like that. Oh well.. just wanted to rant and get that off my chest.

it sucks when you see folks slacking off like they just don't care. I don't have it in me to do as they do so I suck it up. I wish I could be one of those people who doesn't judge other people but I'm not. I see my co-worker and I say to myself -- slacker -- and I say to myself -- slob -- lazy ass --ect. Not out loud, but to myself. I know I am not supposed to worry what others do and I should just worry about myself, but I can't help it.

EXACTLY!!! I hate to judge too. Especially since I am not 100% sure which is "better" in my situation. I am a bit more used to more academic students and the school I work out now is a pretty low level university. The students are good natured, but they are not very "smart". ALL the students love this other teacher.. he is easy going.. his classes are easy... he is a bit of a push over really. They love him. BUT Are they learning anything?? NO! They aren't. The percentage of students that really want to learn are pretty low in comparison to those that just want a high grade or just to pass at all with the least amount of effort possible. I know that.. I understand it. Hell I was a student before and was the same way. So I know that is what THEY want. But I also had those teacher that really made me think and work hard to get a good grade. If I was able to I felt really happy and proud that I did it. I would like to think of myself as that sort of teacher. Language learning is all about effort, and the way I look at it, my job is to teach them English.. or help them learn it. This other guy just goes throught he motions because really the job could be super easy. Just last week he told me he used a premade final from this online site he has been getting stuff from. The final was totally out of the students league. He was sort of complaining about it, but he didn't even check it before he gave it to them!! I was thinking to myself, "you give a final to students and you haven't even looked at it yet!!! " But the students and staff love him. Its so annoying. He isn't a good teacher, he is a horrible worker, but he is very good at people.. and kissing butt. When the time comes if I don't get tenure and he does I will flip out. I am just going to try and to a good job... improve upon myself ever term if I can and try to do such a good job they want me to stay. Hopefully his slacking will be noticed by others. Funny thing is I really like the guy on a personal level. Its just on a professional level that I dislike him. And I hate how he tries to make himself look good at the expense of others. But on the weekends if he wants to go out for a beer, I am more that happy to.

Wow, giving a test without checking it out first? I would never do that! I find it the hieght of laziness to go onling and look for a test without creating one myself, only because you'd enver know if it conformed to what you even taught or not. Kids these days... I know that it is hard to separate personal feelings from prefessional feelings. I do have a number of co-workers that I think are a lot of fun to hang out with and talk with, but I'd never want them to work with me side by side. I'd be doing all the work! ;D

Yeah I know!! When he was telling me about the test, thats exactly what I was thinking. This guy is rather lazy. He lets students grade themselves as well. He says "well they are honest!" and when I laughed at it, he said he "learned from the best"... but in his mind that meant less work for him.
Teaching can go either way. You can be WAY busy or you can take it easy. I remember talking about my issuing reports instead of tests and his tests being multiple choice. I have to read all those papers while he has to check a, b or c.. and on top of that he doesn't even check it!! lol amazing.
My wife says I'll get the tenure position, but at times I just don't know. He is friends with all the right people and that goes a long way. I am not on bad terms with anyone, but I don't have a history of friendship with them either.
So this week is going to be hell for me. I have nearly double the amount of classes I normally have because of a few make up days the university scheduled. Oh well.. the finish line is in sight!!

Well, I hope you do succeed and get your tenure. I do like to think that one will be rewarded for one's hard work. I alaso hope you survive the week, lol. My complaint? I went through all the trouble of posting lovely yet blurry pictures from the Wolverine semi sorta trailer that was aired at Comicon in the Wolverien movie thread and yet no one on this board has yet to comment on it. *sniff* I did work very hard to cut and paste those from the Hype you know.

LOL... I am sorry. I forgot to mention but my work has a firewall that doesn't permit pictures.. I think thats the reason my avatar doesn't work. So I don't even go to the picture forum because I can't see them anyway!
Its odd that pictures are blocked but youtube isn't!
I posted some youtube links with Hugh Jackman at comiccon.. no trailer stuff though;(

Here's my complaint of the summer! Its been raining for the 2/3 of the summer. Some cities are now flooded by the rivers too full of water. The problem is the water coming down in a very small period of time (2 inches in 1/2 an hour). Usually, we have those rains in the spring and sometimes in automn, the usual times of rivers flooding nearby areas. But its seems like we have a tropical climate, we have thunderstorms (often VERY violent) almost everyday and its one of the rainiest summers in half a century. I'm complaining because I miss the sun!!! Usually, it doesn't affect my temper, but its been this way for 3 months straight! I predict a very snowy winter with severe floods this next spring... I hope I'm wrong... I'm going in vacation in Cuba this winter... I'll take get as much Vitamin C as I can. How about the weather in your area?
