That cover reminds me a lot of a Joe Q Wolverine Variant from a while ago. I think it was during Millar's run.

So I read 66 and while I still wish this was a mini and not in the solo book since it can't be taken as canon, I have to admit I sort of liked it. I don't get why Hawkeye is in it though. that connection just doesn't feel right, but we'll see.
Keith, yeah I know which cover you are talking about. I thought the same thing, but I like this one more.

I was surprised to see Hawkeye myself though I don't really mind. He is a guy I like. Perhaps as we read more we'll better understand why he in particular was chosen for this.

I don't mind him being in it either and I really liked this first issue... I mean the way they were with each other worked for me. I just find it odd, since nothing really up until now points to those two being together so to speak.

Just read Origins 26 and loved it! Not only is the art fantastic now that Dillion is gone, but the story was amazing. Loved where they say Daken is coming from. This isn't really a spoiler but Coldfire can answer this for me -- they said that the word Daken means mongrel in Japanese. Is that true?

Really!? I'm sort of looking forward to reading it then;) Maybe they realized Dillon was bringing it down? I mean, the stories and writing is of course important, but comics are GRAPHIC novels.. the art tells the story just as much as the words.
Daken 駄犬 does mean mongrel in Japanese. That would never be a name though! lol Poor guy.. no wonder he is pissed off all the time!

For better or for worse, marvel has a habit of rotating people, especially the artists. I stuck with Origins when it got interesting because I knew sooner or later, that Dillion would get rotated off. It isn't always a good thing, the artist on X-Factor that I love is being rotated out and his replacement is horrible. I can only hope he will be temporary too. When you read Origins, you'll understand more about Daken's name. I just don't want to give anything away. The book was really good.

I read it and liked it. You are right it was actually a pretty good book. I am not 100% sold on it yet, but in time, maybe I will be.
I have never heard anyway say the term 'DAKEN' though, so I wonder if that was just something Way found in an English/Japanese dictionary. I mean while the word does mean mongrel, its not used like he had it used. I always get a kick out of the "Japanese" in comics. They formalize the English or through terms in, but it always sounds funny to me. Of course Japanese speakers aren't the target audience though.
Still the few New Avengers issues and the Astonishing X-Men had real japanese thrown in there which was a pleasant surprise. I wonder if those writers know Japanese or if they had someone do it for them?
Anyway, back to Origins, the other thing that was weird to me was the "test subjects". Whats that all about? Pretty SciFi.
I am happy there was more Romulus stuff, and that is intriguing but scary too. They could totally ruin Wolverines character with Romulus... sort of like the Lupine arc.. I liked that book a LOT, but didn't like that part of the story. Too out there. Didn't feel right for a Wolverine story.
Still, semi-good story and good art. The best Origins book to date. Only took 25 times for them to finally get it.

I like the idea of Romulus and like you, hope they carry it out well and not kill it. I miss the good old days when not only were the foriegn languages translated better, but they also had those little astericks and notes when they referred to something that happened in the past. They could give you a back issue number if you wanted to go back and reread soemthing. Maybe with so much continuity shot to hell they are scared to do that, lol. (maybe that belonged in the complain thread, lol...)

Oh yeah!!! I almost forgot about those!! I guess they died off with all the narration. That was helpful though!
